Symptoms Associated With Each Stage of Uterine Cancer

Uterine cancer, also called endometrial cancer, is the most common gynecologic cancer in women. While early detection can lead to highly successful treatment outcomes, symptoms may vary widely depending on the stage of the disease. In Stage 1, the cancer is confined to the uterus. This is the earliest and most treatable stage, and many women are diagnosed here due to noticeable symptoms.

This is the most common early warning sign, especially after menopause. In premenopausal women, it may appear as unusually heavy or irregular periods.

*Pelvic discomfort or pain

Pain may radiate or feel more intense as the tumor presses on surrounding tissues.

*Swelling in the legs

This can occur if lymph nodes are affected and drainage is impaired.

*Changes in bladder or bowel habits

Frequent urination, constipation, or discomfort during elimination may occur.

*Visible mass or lesion in the vaginal area

In rare cases, tumors may become visible during a physical exam.

In Stage 4, the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body such as the bladder, rectum, lungs, or bones. This is considered advanced uterine cancer.

Common Symptoms at This Stage:

*Severe pelvic and abdominal pain

Persistent and sharp pain is common due to widespread tissue invasion.

*Unexplained weight loss

A sudden drop in weight without changes in diet or activity can be a red flag.

*Fatigue and general weakness

Cancer progression often leads to systemic fatigue and decreased energy levels.

*Difficulty breathing or chest pain

If the cancer has spread to the lungs, respiratory symptoms may occur.

*Appetite loss and nausea

Especially if the gastrointestinal system is involved.
